Appointment Policy

Consultations at Main Street Medical Centre are by appointment, however we reserve several appointments each day for urgent matters. Reception will do their best to give you an appointment with the your preferred doctor, at the time that best suits you. If it is an urgent matter and it is necessary to see your regular doctor, please let the receptionist know and they will ask your doctor whether you can be fitted in as an extra.

If you have several problems you wish to discuss with the doctor or a complex problem you may need a longer appointment. If you think you may require a longer appointment please ask our staff at reception when making the booking.

Sick children will always be a priority. However, the earlier we receive your appointment request the easier it is to fit them in.

Appointments can be made either, over the phone, online through the website or the Health Engine App.

From March 4th 2024 there will be a change to the billing policy. All consults, face to face or telehealth, are billed according to duration and complexity.

We require patients to pay for their consultation in full on the day of their visit. For most consultations the rebate can then be claimed immediately through the Medicare Easy Claim System by swiping your debit card with the rebate being deposited into your bank account immediately.

Medicare Bulk Billing:

  • Children 15years & under Bulk Billed
  • DVA card holders
  • Chronic Disease Management plans
  • Health Assessments

Additional fees will apply for extra services at the time of the consultation, for example Electrocardiographs, lung function tests, skin biopsies or liquid nitrogen treatment of skin lesions.

For removal of lesions Pension Card holders will be charged a maximum out of pocket expense of $90.75

  • BP Loan Machine: $40.10

New Patients
New patients are welcome. All new patients are requested to complete the `New Patient Form`. This form can be downloaded from the website, completed when booking online or please arrive 15 minutes before the appointment time to complete paperwork.
Non-attendance of an appointment
If you are unable to attend an appointment at least 2 hours notice is required, so that the appointment can be offered to another patient. If you do not attend your appointment there will be a fee of $20. After two missed appointments all outstanding non-attendance fees must be paid before another appointment will be given, emergency appointments excepted.
After Hours
For urgent after hours medical attention, please call the surgery on 02 6672 1200 and a recorded message will give you the contact telephone number for the doctor on call.

Home Visits
Home visits are made at the discretion of each individual doctor. If you feel your medical condition dictates the need for a home visit, please contact reception as soon as possible after 8am and your request will be forwarded to your preferred doctor.
Repeat Prescriptions – updated Feb 2024
Regular patients of the Doctors below are able to request a repeat prescription.

You are able to access this service `Request Script` through the website or HealthEngine App.

The cost of this service is $20.00. With a 3 business day turn-around.

The issuing of the script is up to the discretion of the doctor and will only be considered for medications that have previously been prescribed to you by this doctor and are due for renewal.

Repeat prescriptions for medications deemed additcive such as opiates and benzodiazepines are not provided through this service and will be automatically declined.

If your regular doctor is not listed above this service is not available to you.

We require that you attend a consultation with your doctor to receive repeat prescriptions for medications. For urgent essential prescriptions the doctor will be able to fit you in for a brief ‘script only’ appointment.

Ongoing Referrals
A brief appointment is needed to obtain ongoing referrals.

Privacy
Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy the doctor to maintain security of your personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised staff members. Pathology and Radiology Results

All test results are viewed by your referring doctor and if the results require immediate action the doctor will call you.

For results that require a ‘non-urgent’ follow-up appointment the office staff will contact you.

If you do not hear from us then your test result does not require a follow-up appointment. However, if you wish to discuss the results with your doctor please feel free to book an appointment.

Please note that the reception staff are not able to give results over the phone.

Medical Certificates must be obtained during your appointment.
On-site Pathology
Australian Clinical Labs Pathology have an on-site collection centre:
Monday – Friday 0800 – 1330 and 1430 – 1700
Saturdays CLOSED.
